KARSTS OF CHINA

SOUTH CHINA KARST

CAMPAIGN

CONCEPT

Keith Ladzinski and a small group of climbers, including Matt Segeal and Cedar Wright explore China’s great karst formations. Along the way, they searched for scientific evidence of how the 240 million year old limestone formations were created.

CREATIVE

INSIGHT

Karsts is an area of land made up of. Limestone, also known a softthat dissolves in water. As rainwater seeps into the rock, it slowly erodes. Karst landscapes can be worn away from the top or dissolved from a weak point inside the rock.Karst landscapes feature caves, underground streams and sinkholes on the surface. Where erosion has worn away the land above ground, steep rocky cliffs are visible.

PRODUCTION

EXECUTION

DIVING

DEEPER

The expedition resulted in a short film that was presented at the Banff Film Festival in 2014, and section of a National Geographic Article, and a dedicated National Geo Adventure Article.
